Young girls processed into church carrying wreaths with seven flowers to symbolize the seven sorrows of Mary, and thus began the culmination Mass on a Sunday in September for the 150th anniversary of St. Mary of the Seven Dolors Parish in Appleton, WI. Several Sinsinawa Dominicans were in attendance as the Congregation has had ties to St. Mary Parish since 1889 when the Sisters established the parish grade and high schools. Kathleen Long, OP, and Barbara Bell, OP, are parish daughters. The theme for the yearlong anniversary celebration was “Remembering, Celebrating, Envisioning.” Janette Wicker, OP, who attended the Mass, said, “It was a wonderful, inspiring celebration with a thought-provoking homily by Bishop Robert Banks that took us back 50 years and then brought us full circle, looking to the future. God will always be present as will the parishioners. It was great to see so many who I worked with and knew in the nine years I was there.”
