A Need for Comprehensive Immigration Reform in the U.S.
During the past 20 years, the world has developed in numerous ways. We have gone through great changes politically, culturally, scientifically, and technologically. We are able to communicate instantaneously with one another. The United States leads these changes, is supporting two wars, and is in a tremendous economic and health crisis, but since 1990 its immigration and naturalization system has been stagnant. Sister Monice Enjoys Ministry at Learning Center
This letter from one of our students, a woman who was being honored at a “Night of 1,000 Stars” literacy event last spring, says much about the ministry in which I am involved and even more about the reasons I both value and enjoy it. Read more . . .
BINGO!
Last October as I went to the Mound for medical rehabilitation, I wondered what it would be like to live in such a large community. Would I be able to mix with over 150 other Sisters? Would I be able or want to participate fully in community life? I have led a sedentary life. How would I ever be able to do “all that walking?” Could I ever feel at home at the Mound? Read more . . .

My Journey to Becoming Dominican:
There Was a Place for Me
During my senior year of high school, I visited with our youth club moderator, Rhea Bean, RSM, from Dobbs Ferry, NY, about being a Sister. She asked me what I wanted to do with my life, and I told her, “I want to teach physical education.” She had known me since at least 8th grade, and, after some discussion, she advised me to follow my dream to go to school to be a teacher and then look at religious life again after I had given myself an opportunity to experience life outside of high school. Theology Class Shares Powerful Discussion
I teach theology to both day and weekend students at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, MN. Weekend College at St. Catherine is for returning students (all women), most in their 30s and 40s. Teaching an introductory theology course to 18-year-olds can be good, but a roomful of women who have an extra decade or two of life experience, struggles, successes, and/or disasters gives us all a lot more to work with.
