The Grand Raffle was held Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008. Sisters and employees waited to see if they would know any of the winners. Prioress Patricia Mulcahey, OP, drew the tickets, and the crowd anxiously listened as Director of Development Mary Ellen Green, OP, announced the winners.
People from all over the United States participate in the Grand Raffle. Two Sisters watching the drawing each knew one of the winners. The $10,000 winner was Thomasyne (Campbell) Hubert, a 1967 graduate of Rosary College. The $5,000 prize went to William Dickinson, a friend of the Sisters. Gerald and Linda Gerlach won the $2,000 prize. Linda has attended retreats at the Mound for many years. The three $1,000 prize winners were Michael J. Whelan, a 1961 graduate of Holy Trinity Grade School and 1965 graduate of Trinity High School, both Bloomington, IL; Susan (Carney) Mattoon, a 1965 graduate of Edgewood College; and Denny Raiche, the nephew of former Sister Catherine Morrissey. The winners were from Illinois, Washington, and Minnesota.
Mary Ellen said, “We are very grateful for the enthusiastic participation of so many people in our Grand Raffle. This annual event is our most important fund-raiser and continues to draw support from our families, friends, alums, and Sisters. We send a big ‘thank you’ to everyone for another successful outcome.”
