Celebrating 800 Years of Dominican Life
The Order of Preachers—one of the few religious movements known by its mission rather than by its founder. That is so like Dominic, always about the mission. Read more . . .

From the Prioress
The Fiscal Year (FY) 2006–07 [July 1, 2006–June 30, 2007] was a year of tremendous generosity on the part of our supporters. Donors belonging to our Sinsinawa Circle and to our Partners of Hope, Justice, Compassion, Truth, Peace, Ministry, and Hospitality continue to enable us to work in the many ministries through which we live our Dominican commitment to preach the Gospel. One Year Out of 800
The theme of what will be a 10-year celebration, “Catching the Fire from Dominic’s Vision,” provides a rich, metaphorical framework for reviewing in this annual report the significant events of FY 2006–07. Read more . . .

Remaining Faithful to the Mission
How does a Catholic health system remain faithful to the mission of the founding Sisters when those Sisters are no longer present? That is my ministry as a Sinsinawa Dominican. The new leaders of Catholic healthcare today are mostly lay men and women from many faith traditions. These highly skilled leaders are called to run multi-million dollar organizations AS WELL AS lead an important MINISTRY of the Catholic Church. Read more . . .

Proclaiming Good News
Embedded in our Dominican charism is the fire that Dominic kindled in founding the Order of Preachers 800-plus years ago. His vision for the Order was rooted in Gospel living and the experience of communities of nuns, lay men and women, clerical and non-clerical, which gave impetus to the Spirit in the Holy Preaching. In every age since then, and so today, we are called to proclaim the Gospel. Read more . . .

Ministering to Women in Need
For Dominic, the Church that preaches is the whole Church, in all its members and all its gifts. “Holy Preaching” is the whole being of the community. Our work at Transitions’ Women’s Hearth in Spokane is a daily experience of being the “Holy Preaching” with all the participants, volunteers, and staff who make up this community. Read more . . .

Spreading the Fire to Students
Eight hundred years ago, the preaching of the first Dominican Sisters in Prouilhe was done behind cloister walls through prayer that sought to support the spread of the Gospel. Today, as a follower of Dominic and the early Sisters, I spend my life behind “walls of ivy,” and I, too, pray that my work will aid the spread of the Gospel in our time, especially within the Church itself.
