Tracing a Journey-Mazzuchelli Video

Imagine leaving a life of wealth and a homeland of friends and family to come to the United States to minister as a Catholic priest in the rugged Midwestern frontier in the 1800s.

The Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters announce the release of the video "Tracing a Journey: Celebrating the Life of Father Samuel Mazzuchelli" which documents the life of this pioneer Dominican priest as he traveled throughout the upper Midwest in the 1800s establishing more than 30 parish communities and building churches and civic structures in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. Born in Italy in 1806, his steps are traced by boat, horseback and foot to explore his trials and triumphs as a missionary to immigrants and Native Americans in the United States.

Upon his death, a penance chain was discovered around his waist. Today, many pray with this chain, asking for Father Mazzuchelli's intercession and to receive special graces. His legacy continues today as Sisters and friends pray for his sainthood.

The 40-minute documentary, produced by Craig Schaefer, an award-winning associate professor of media studies at Loras College, is available at Sinsinawa Mound Bookshop for $19.95 plus tax in both DVD and VHS formats. "Tracing a Journey" can also be ordered online. Go to www.sinsinawa.org/Bread_Gifts.htm and go to our on-line gift shop and click on Religious Gifts. Additional shipping and handling charges may apply. For more information, contact Tricia Buxton at (608) 748-4411, ext. 270, or e-mail communication@sinsinawa.org
