Who are Sinsinawa Dominican Associates?
Dominican Associates of Sinsinawa are people who are called to live the Sinsinawa Dominicans mission of preaching and teaching the Gospel to participate in the building of a holy and just society within the context of their own lives. They recognize an affinity with other women and men who want to explore ways to make a difference. This relationship with Sisters and other Associates offers a support system, a way to experience other perspectives, a nudge to keep growing, a spiritual resource.
What are the responsibilities of being an Associate?
Diversity enriches and expands the Sinsinawa Dominican vision toward a global community. In partnership with the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters, Associates can
-
grow in relationship with one another and with the whole human family through the sharing of vision and talents;
-
form a strong partnership in order to proclaim the Gospel in word and action;
-
come to a greater understanding of justice through the study of faith, culture, and the signs of the times;
-
acknowledge, recognize, and incorporate the gifts of Associates in the mission of the Sisters of Sinsinawa; and
-
celebrate through social gatherings and shared prayer.
Wherever Dominicans of Sinsinawa gather, from Trinidad to Alabama to Washington state, local communities offer Associates opportunities for integrating the life and values of the Sisters and other Associates with their own.
Since 1985, Associates have joined the Sisters of Sinsinawa as participants in the joy and challenge of transforming a shared dream of building a holy and just society into reality. Associates are business people and teachers, homemakers and musicians, married and single, and of various ages.
Our core values include justice, stewardship, relationship, study, and prayer.
What is the vision of Associates?
The Dominican Associates of Sinsinawa will be a diverse community joined in intentional relationships of prayer, study, and action to promote a holy and just society and deepen our contemplation as we live and spread the Dominican charism of preaching and teaching the Gospel.
What are the four pillars of Dominican life?
Prayer
Both personal and communal prayer nourishes and sustains the life of each Dominican Sister and Associate.
Study
Study is an essential element of Dominican life. It compels us to stretch beyond our comfort zone and broaden our horizons.
Ministry
To contemplate and give to others the fruits of our contemplation is the essential integrating principle of Dominican life. Thus, ministry flows naturally from study and prayer and is always carried out in community.
Community
Sinsinawa Dominicans believe that at the heart of ministry is relationship, and relationship is at the heart of everything in our lives. Community is essential for Associates and Sisters. Truly everything we do in the Eucharistic and Earth community affects everyone and everything else.
